Musa Mohammed believes that the lack of opportunity does not prevent success in the long run. With this in mind, he chose to become a STEM educator after his dreams of becoming a Medical Doctor were not realized.
His first teaching experience was after secondary school, after which he gained admission to the University of Cape Coast to read BSC Laboratory Technology. Currently, Musa has four years of teaching experience and teaches STEM at the Abeadze Odumase AME Zion School. His first set of students just sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Musa has a little over 70 students. Interestingly, he is himself a student as he combines teaching with his studies at the University of Education, Winneba where he is studying for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.
So far, being a teacher has been a great experience for him. In all he does, he wants to give off his best, and describes his motivation as being intrinsic.
Musa Mohammed learnt about the JUNEOS Challenge during a STEM workshop which he attended as a member of GAST. The challenge got his interest because he knew his students really enjoyed the practical lessons and would be exposed to so much more with the JUNEOS Challenge. He helped his students through the whole process and is quite happy with the results. Musa says that the challenge has had an immeasurable impact on him. He has now made it a priority to have more practical sessions with his students. Participating in the process has also helped him find ways to make his teaching more interesting.
In his opinion, the JUNEOS Challenge is a great initiative and should be encouraged, sponsored and patronized by Ghanaian parents and schools. Musa believes that the JUNEOS Challenge will make science and its related professions more appealing to students.
Musa Mohammed admires the genius of Albert Einstein and, for relaxation, enjoys watching any movie that features Majid Michel.
