WeGo Innovate is pleased to announce that the GH4STEM JUNEOS Challenge has been selected as one of nine innovations at the call for UN STI Forum 2021. The UN STI Forum is an annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals. The STI Forum is a discussion and networking platform for different actors in the field of science, technology and innovation to address technology needs and gaps, scientific cooperation, innovation and capacity building in order to enhance development.

The GH4STEM JUNEOS Challenge is a practical STEM TV Series that features Junior High School students (65% girls) across Ghana who bring STEM theories to life using materials from the local environment.

The GH4STEM JUNEOS Challenge was successful due to the support and dedication of our collaborators. Well, they say it takes a village to raise a child and indeed our little but mighty village did raise a child for the world to recognise.

We would like to show our utmost appreciation to our partners GHScientific, Ghana Association of Science Teachers (GAST) and regional chairs of GAST, The Exploratory, Ghana Stem Network and the WeGo Innovate team.

To our judges, Mr. Sam Agudogo, Madam Berthy Buah and Dr. Thomas Tagoe, from the bottom of our hearts we say Thank you! To our annotators, Robert Nii Ayi Aryee, Eunice Nyarko, Saviour Okine, Michael Okyere and Simon Odonkor, we are appreciative of your efforts!

Thank you to our supporting partners like the Ghana Education Service (GES), Futures for Kids, Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET), West African Centre for Cell Biology and Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), BloggingGhana, mfidie.com, Writers Project of Ghana, Next Einstein Forum, Bar Camp Ghana and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) for your assistance.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku for literally lending her voice and support for the show. Also to our celebrities and friends in the media including Serwaa Amihere, Regina Van-Helvert, Kojo Yankson, Aj Sarpong, James Gardiner, John Dumelo, Francis Abban and Daniel Dadzie, you all really did bring your ‘A’ game!

To our partner media houses TV3, GNTV Junior, Dominion TV, Hope Channel Ghana, Joy Prime and Joy Learning you took the Juneos Challenge into different homes and made it possible for students all over! Thank you!

To every individual or group that supported us financially by donating on our GoFundMe Platform, Thank you so much!

Most importantly, our gratitude goes to every student and teacher that participated and carried out their experiments! Also, to the entire education ecosystem and to our viewers across Ghana and the world we are grateful!

THANK YOU for making the GH4STEM JUNEOS CHALLENGE a success!!!

It’s been a long break for students across the length and breadth of Ghana and now it’s time to kickstart the school year. We’re sure a lot of students hold some mixed feelings – they are both elated to go back and a tad bit sad they can’t stay home no longer – and we completely understand!

On Sunday 3rd January, President Nana Akufo-Addo announced that students from Kindergarten to Junior High School will be returning to their classrooms safely on January 15. Also, second and third year secondary school students will be returning to school on January 18 and university students resumed on the 9th of January. Everything is back in full swing – at least to some extent.

For us at WeGo Innovate, we are excited at this news. Last year, 2020 was a whirlwind, but 2021 means we get a whole year to do what we love to do! This year we vow to do more to support education in diverse ways as we create more programs and engage with students and teachers everywhere.  Stick and Stay with us on this year’s ride!!

PS: As the young ones go back to school, let’s help by following COVID-19 protocols as much as possible. Wear a mask at all times and continue to practice social distancing.

Adebola Williams, Media Entreprenuer, Nation Builder, Pan-Africanist”

Adebola Williams is the chief executive officer of StateCraft Inc. the communications agency widely known for helping three African Presidents get elected, with its big, audacious goal of creating large-scale social change. This mission has led him and his company from building hugely popular media platforms in Nigeria to a specialization in governance communication across the continent. He has attributed this stroke of success to an employment of on-the-street activism – from #EnoughisEnough to #OccupyNigeria to #BringBackOurGirls – which connects to popular anger and aspiration.

Adebola is also the co-founder of RED; the 11-year old parent company that houses StateCraft Inc. and encompasses a network of three other media houses focused on the African youth. These include Red Media Africa – a Public Relations company working in West Africa for Facebook, Generation Y! – a TV and online content company with one of Nigeria’s most popular online newspaper and The Future Project – a social enterprise that hosts Africa’s biggest youth social event: The Future Awards Africa.

From a fleeting film career, Adebola had parleyed into the media over a decade ago, working with Nigeria’s National Television Authority and Nigeria International, a syndicated TV show in three continents. Adebola Williams has continually set new standards in his operations with the NTA network and Nigeria International. He is currently the Operations Director of Easily; the voice of RedSTART, and has left his employment at Nigeria International to concentrate full time on this. He has described his experience in the media and show business as fitting into the theme of his life’s work which involves using the media to galvanize Africans in solving their own problems.
